Steve Krug’s Got a Crush on GolfLink.com

Fri 20 Oct 2006

When I mentioned that I would post again “later”, I meant in weeks. And regarding Steve Krug (who rocks a Toshiba tabby) and his crush on GolfLink.com, I meant right now during his “Don’t Make Me Think: The Workshop” today, in Seattle. I feel bad for the other participants [because it has been a lot of that damned grass UI]. But he has, obliquely, answered my [underlying] question about a heavy [search engine optimization focus for a ] website: is the populist vibe in Googlebot a good usability platform, if you’re investing heavily in SEO? It seems the answer is yes. Usability is at the heart of Googlebot’s methods—that is known. But to Venn [diagram] it up: usability and SEO are not opposing forces. In fact, a solid focus on SEO can provide a respectable baseline for usability. They overlap to a significant degree. Enough that it is an excellent place to start integrating usability into SEO discussions. [Pointless ink joke in the ink version.]

For My Inkers…

Fri 8 Sep 2006

[My handwriting is horrid in this one. Funny, cause I thought it was better than the first....] For my second post, a bit about my set-up. I rock a Dialogue Flybook. It’s tiny. I don’t use most of the fancy features, like SIM card capabilities and mobile phone software. But I dig the fact its the size of a large papeback [book]. MS [sic] won’t license Tabby OS for the Flybook, due to esoteric drama about proper digitizers. But XP is tolerable with add-on software. My tabby needs a faster hard-drive, but I’ll probably wait for Vista at this point. Ink integration is not ideal, but I’ll muddle (sp) through. For the geek-inkers, I ink in Word, then Photoshop it all together. Like my ink blogger heroes, I tried Live Writer w[ith] plug-ins, but it’s choking on my ink software. Maybe someday, when I break this tabby. No, I’m not taking bets on how I’ll break it. It’ll be tossed in a bookbag onto a hard surface. That’s been obvious since I chose the thing.

When in Doubt, Lead with Nostalgia…

Sat 26 Aug 2006

I’ve decided to start this Ink blog on the auspicious event of my 10-year high school reunion. No, I didn’t attend the $120.00 event. I did productive stuff around the city, and in the evening, my housmates[ sic] and I watched “Grosse Pointe Blank“. In the movie, Cusack attends his 10th [high school reunion], Pointe High, class of ‘86. I’m class of ‘96, so if I’m at my 10th [reunion this summer], Cusack should be at his 20th [reunion]. They should make that sequel. Why am I not a professional killer? There’s no post-graduate work required.
