I’m headed out of town over Halloween weekend.  Though a series of quirky choices and influences, two good friends and I are attending a tenth-anniversary event for Neil Gaiman’s book, “American Gods”, at The House on the Rock in Wisconsin.  Sconnie nation, as @tankriot calls it.  I have no doubt at all that this is going to be awesome—after all, Gaiman is judging a Costume Contest based around lost ancient gods and the winners get to ride on the legendary three-story carousel within the House.

I fully expect the book- and fantasy-nerds to *rock* the costume contest. I put in extra effort and feel woefully unprepared.

“Roadside attractions: people feel themselves being pulled to places where, in other parts of the world, they would recognize that part of themselves that is truly transcendent, and buy a hot dog and walk around, feeling satisfied on a level the cannot truly describe, and profoundly dissatisfied on a level beneath that.”

—Mr. Wednesday, “American Gods”
