One hundred years ago today, women gained the right to vote in Washington State, the fifth state in the nation (after having the right recognized in the state in 1883 and then watching it revoked in 1888). It wasn’t until 1920 that the 19th Amendment passed, saying that no state could withhold voting based on gender.
