How on earth can this be considered a legitimate sport?
Awesome. What’s weird about damaging punches like this is that they feel very different from your standard, tactical punches. It starts out like any other punch but you feel the energy transfer go awry at the moment of impact, like you got a video game’s turbo boost without asking for one. It feels effortless and scary and primative. The energy transfer into your opponent is so complete and clean it leaves you oddly still and neutral, which is exceptionally creepy in the middle of an exchange.
My first instinct was always to apologize. No competitor I know—or fought—felt comfortable with that power, even on the attack. Yet we trained to marshall it all the same.
