2010: The Year of Whining About Women In Tech | ZDNet

Yesterday @caterpillarcowboy linked to a rather flammable piece by Violet Blue calling out various women and men for “whining” about the lack of women in technology without clearly answering why it would be a good thing. I appreciate her preciseness as an discussion tactic yet I don’t see unsatisfactory answers as a reason to stop having the discussion by shaming participants. (Lack of clear action-ready conclusions rarely stops humans, after all.) Consequently, her own answers to the question are buried in the eye-rolling tone of the piece.

Given the breadth of the topic, I don’t think the answer has a high-level summary, anyway. Case-in-point, in the responses to Violet Blue’s column a woman under the name Immunity offered her own awesome answer:

My streaky attention span for things I care about appalls me.

Reblogging from iPhone means Tiff’s great post will be inexplicably truncated, which is a big shame. Go read it.
