10 Ways Generation Y Will Change the Workplace (Employee Evolution)
- We’ll Hold Only Productive Meetings
- We’ll Shorten the Work Day
- We’ll Bring Back the Administrative Assistants [sic]
- We’ll Redefine Retirement
- We’ll Find Real Mentors
- We’ll Restore Respect to the HR Department
- We’ll Promote Based on Emotional Intelligence
- We’ll Continue to Value What Our Parents Have to Offer
- We’ll Enjoy Higher Starting Salaries
- We’ll Re-invent the Performance Review
Okay, here’s the thee things that irritate me about this list:
- Do Gen Y self-appointed mouthpieces really think no older people thought this list would be nice things to have or do? Or that these demands aren’t resting on the back of a lot of hard-won groundwork laid by others? Drop the exceptionalist back-patting and have some empathy for the challenges overcome by previous workers.
- I have to stop reading anything by the Ryans on EE or Brazen Careerist. They used to be interesting, but now it’s too self-congratulatory to be anything but not-really-representational bombast.
- Administrative assitants—yeah, somebody’s been watching to much “Mad Men”.
