Mos Def - Ghetto Rock
Got a rare chance to see Mos front Black Jack Johnson at Bumbershoot in 2004(ish), and they’re still one of the best bands I could assemble in my head. Just ruckus, much like this ‘Ghetto Rock’. I do agree with critics lamenting Mos’ lyrical downward slide since ‘Black on Both Sides’, but he’s dealing with heavier topics now, that don’t easily roll into shapely lyrics. He’ll be back. And I hope Black Jack Johnson’s rough sound comes with, too.
