The Dark Secret at Blood Falls - TierneyLab While hiking in Summerland a few years ago, the glacier-fed river by the trail turned blood red for about 30 minutes right at dusk. It was extremely eerie because the red color left no residue on the riverbanks or rocks, which ruled out my best guess of a clay layer exposed by erosion. I’ll bet that event was a similar effect to this glacier. Reminder not to make fun of the our innate inclination to be superstitious.
